The all American red lip was favoured by many of the top fashion houses for Spring 2011. A return to 1950’s/60’s ladylike glamour, this classic and non threatening shade of red is a welcome trend amongst the bright and edgier corals and pinks of the season. Shown here worn by Frea Beha Ericksen, Snejana Onopka, and Chanel Iman for Gucci Ready To Wear 2011, and featured in the Tom Ford Eyewear ad featuring model Abbey Lee Kershaw. Oral Addiction’s favorite celebrities Natalie Portman, Beyonce, and Angelina Jolie also donne the classic pout.
Beautiful bold red lip with blue base and a nice shine is the key to this new look as apposed to last year’s bright red look, or 2009’s dark matte red look. Tweak the deepness of the blue by how cold or warm your skin tone is. If you are a cooler tone like Snejana Onopka, go as blue as you want. If you are a warmer, golden skin tone (such as Chanel Iman or Frea Beha Ericksen), stick with leaning towards the reds with just enough blue to give that deep blood colour but with enough orange/yellow in it to not wash you out. This look will pair amazing with the bold black glasses, 70’s inspired prints, and fun big hair that you will be sporting this spring.
